The
nightlife is very animated in Crete. For having lived there I can guarantee to you that you will not be disappointed by the
night life, which is pure madness. To start you will be able to go to
dine in one on the many restaurants; I advise you however to eat in
small local taverns and taste the local specialities. They are many and excellent. The small
villages of Koutoulofari and the old
Hersonnisos (in the north of the
resort) will not fail to impress you.
However there are two kind of places and
evenings:
*The
resorts,
only open from May to October, with a large variety of bars and discotheques,
open till 6 a.m. Hersonnisos is the biggest resort where several evenings are
organized in summer. These resorts are especially attended by tourists who come there to
dance and celebrate their holidays. Few Greeks are coming; their way of life
is more quiet.
Here some animated areas, all located in the north of the island, close to
the Heraklion maintown.- Amoudara- Gouves- Hersonnisos (do not miss the
Amnesia discotheque)- Malia (English customers 95%)- Aghios Nicholaos (like Saint-Tropez)
*The towns of Heraklion, Rethymnon and Chania
(the 3 main towns of Crete) where the bars
and discotheques are very fashion. The decoration is modern and Greek are well
dressed.. Few of them are dancing; they prefer to discuss between friends and
drink something. I can guarantee to you that it is a
true fashion parade. It is not rare to see at the end of the evening some of
them dancing some steps of syrto or pendozalis, local traditional dances.
